New Castle County Head Start, Inc. receives $224,219 for a Coaching and Mentoring program

Wilmington, Del.New Castle County Head Start, Inc. announces it is a recipient of a federal Department of Health & Human Services grant in the amount of $224,219 to implement an Early Learning Mentor Coaches program. The grant, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, supports a coaching initiative that will improve the quality of teaching; assist programs to promote positive, significant and sustained outcomes for children; and promote career development for teaching staff working in Head Start programs.

"We are thrilled to be a recipient of this national grant," comments Executive Director, Jeff Benatti. "These funds will provide valuable coaching and training for our staff, supporting our organizational goal to have the highest quality early childhood education program in the region."

New Castle County Head Start, Inc. is one of 150 national Head Start and Early Head Start grantees who, together, will receive approximately $25 million for a project period of eighteen months. The coaches program is tailored to Head Start programs and will provide: professional development related to ongoing child assessment; the aggregation and analysis of child progress data and the use of such information for curriculum implementation and continuous program improvement; strategies for improving teacher child interactions; and effective strategies for working with culturally, linguistically, developmentally and age-diverse groups of children.
