New Castle County Head Start, Inc. students meet safety character “Buckle Bear” during the Safety Fair at Rose Hill and Lambson centers on November 5, 2014.(Newark, Del.) During the month of November, New Castle County Head Start, Inc. will host Safety Fairs in memory of former Head Start students, Elijah and Alyssa Rivera Kupchinski, who were tragically killed in a car accident on May 25, 2011. The fairs offer educational activities for both parents and students about car safety.
Head Start students will perform a number ofsafety-themed songs to parents, create crafts including car seat belts, helmets, traffic lights and stop signs, and visit with safety character Buckle Bear. Parents will hear a presentation by Larry Kelly, of the State of Delaware’s Office of Highway Safety, and Sargent Reynolds, of New Castle County Police Department, on car safety and learn how to properly install a car seat. Patty Kupchinski, grandmother of Elijah and Alyssa, will host a memorial exhibit at the fairs to reinforce the importance of car safety with parents.
Safety Fairs will be held at each of the eight Head Start centers throughout November. Below are photos from the first fair held at the Rose Hill and Lambson centers on November 5, 2014.
