New Castle County Head Start, Inc. Hosted 4th Annual Safety Fairs
(Newark, Del.) During the month of November, New Castle County Head Start, Inc. hosted Safety Fairs at all eight centers in memory of former Head Start students, Elijah and Alyssa Rivera Kupchinski, who were tragically killed in a car accident on May 25, 2011. The fairs offered educational activities for both parents and students about car safety.
Head Start students performed a number of safety-themed songs to parents, created crafts including car seat belts, helmets, traffic lights and stop signs, and visited with safety character Buckle Bear. Parents heard a presentation by Larry Kelly, of the State of Delaware’s Office of Highway Safety, car safety and learn how to properly install a car seat. Patty Kupchinski, grandmother of Elijah and Alyssa, hosted a memorial exhibit at the fairs to reinforce the importance of car safety with parents.
