(Wilmington, Del.) New Castle County Head Start, Inc. (NCCHS) Board of Directors held new officer elections and recognized outgoing members on December 2, 2014. The new officers are J.D. Lee, Chairperson; Leslie Lee, Vice Chairperson; Michael Mood, Treasurer; and Faith Mwaura, Secretary. Officers are elected for a one year term beginning December 2, 2014.
Chairperson J.D. Lee has served six years on the NCCHS Board of Directors as Secretary, Vice Chairperson and as Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. Lee designs machinery for the healthcare industry. He serves as President & CCO of TGS, an engineering company; CFO of LDW, a property management company and is former President of BVM Maintenance Corporation.
Vice Chairperson Leslie Lee has served over 12 years on the board in numerous leadership roles including Secretary and Chairperson. Ms. Lee has over thirty years of professional experience in energy assistance to low income households and retired as a Management Analyst for the State of Delaware.
The Board of Directors recognized outgoing members Chairperson Randy Roberts, Phyllis Barnes and Eric DeFeo for their time and service to the agency.
Former Chairperson Randy Roberts completed two consecutive three year terms, serving as chairperson since 2011. During his tenure as chairperson, Roberts minimized impacts to the agency during funding cutbacks from the federal sequestration, oversaw a favorable Federal Monitoring Review where NCCHS classroom quality scores were at or above the highest 10% of scores for all national Head Start grantees in 2013 and established the first Board of Directors self evaluation process.
Phyllis Barnes completed two consecutive three year terms on the board where she served as chair of the Community Awareness and Advocacy committee. Eric DeFeo has served on the board since June 2013.
