(Newark, Del.) New Castle County Head Start, Inc. (NCCHS) welcomes new board members: Caroline Horty Dickerson, Michael Staman and Todd Veale. The new volunteer members will begin a three-year term of service in August 2018.
Caroline Horty Dickerson serves as Chief Executive Officer and Treasurer of Commonwealth Trust Company. She has more than 20 years of professional experience in the area of trust administration and taxation. She holds a degree from Goldey-Beacom College and is a Certified Business Consultant. Ms. Horty Dickerson is an active member of Delaware Bankers Association, New Castle County Chamber of Commerce and Vistage International and past volunteer member at Faithful Friends and The Ministry of Caring.
Michael Staman, AWMA, CFP serves as Vice President - Senior Financial Consultant at Charles Schwab. He has over 20 years of professional experience in the financial services industry. He holds a degree from Bloomsburg University and numerous financial credentials including Accredited Wealth Management Advisor, Certified Financial Planner and Life & Variable Insurance License. Mr. Staman is a member of Wilmington Rotary Club.
Todd Veale is an independent technology and strategy consultant. He has over 30 years of professional experience in fast growth corporations, primarily in the financial services industry including 16 years at MBNA. He holds degrees from Boston College and Harvard Business School. A former NCCHS board member (1997-2006), Mr. Veale has also volunteered at The Village of St. John, Alapocas Maintenance Corporation, National Wildlife Refuge Association and Better Business Bureau of Delaware.
In addition, NCCHS presented 2017-2018 service awards to staff members that have gone above and beyond in their dedication to early childhood education.
2017-2018 Lucy H. Borda Award: Since 2004, the Lucy H. Borda Award has been bestowed on the staff member who best represents the character of deceased staff member Lucy H. Borda. Ms. Borda held a strong belief in continued professional growth, regardless of personal challenges, and an ongoing determination to accomplish professional goals. NCCHS Controller Debbie Drueding (right) presented this year’s Borda award to Andrea Reynolds (right), Senior Accountant.
2017-2018 Eunice A. Thomas Employee of the Year Awards: Staff members voted for one person who best demonstrates a professional and positive attitude and willingness to go out of his/her way to help others. This year’s winners are (left to right): Charnise Wells, Manor Park; Eugenia Simmons, Rose Hill; Lorenza Obregon, Marshallton; Linda L. Marks, Administrative Office; Maria Gonzalez, Absalom Jones; Christine Potter, Bear; Yuri Santizo-Carrizosa, Lambson; and Amy McKiernan, Claymont. Not pictured is Edna Soto, Early Head Start.
