(Newark, Del.) New Castle County Head Start, Inc. (NCCHS) announces an exciting opportunity for community members to make a positive impact on the lives of at-risk children and families in New Castle County, Delaware. NCCHS seeks professionals from the fields of early childhood education, legal, medical and nonprofit to join the volunteer Board of Directors.
The NCCHS Board of Directors serves as the governing body and oversees strategic planning, fiscal management, community outreach, funding allocations and program policies. The membership of the board consists of the executive director, as a non-voting member, and 9 to 15 volunteer members. NCCHS is a private, non-profit organization devoted to promoting the school readiness of children ages birth to 5 years from income-eligible families in New Castle County, Delaware. The agency provides excellence in early childhood education and supportive services to help families achieve self-sufficiency. Head Start embraces diversity and welcomes children and families of all backgrounds and abilities including those with special needs.
Since 1977, nearly 20,000 at-risk children have benefited from the comprehensive early childhood program at no cost to families. The program is funded through grants from the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, Delaware Department of Education, community partners and private donors.
