(Newark, Del.) During the month of November, New Castle County Head Start, Inc. (NCCHS) hosts annual safety fairs in memory of former NCCHS students, Elijah and Alyssa Rivera Kupchinski, who were tragically killed in a car accident on May 25, 2011. The fairs offer educational activities for both parents and students about car safety.
On November 17, 2017, Head Start students at Rose Hill and Lambson centers performed a number of safety-themed songs to parents, created crafts including car seat belts, traffic lights and stop signs, and visited with safety character Buckle Bear. Larry Kelley, of the State of Delaware’s Office of Highway Safety, gave a detailed presentation to parents on car seat safety. Kelley reviewed types of car seats, state law requirements, proper installation, child size and weight requirements, and car seat orientation.

NCCHS students enjoy a visit with safety character Buckle Bear.
