New Castle County Head Start, Inc. Receives Grant to Provide Early Head Start Services for Children Birth to Age 3

(Newark, Del.) May 26, 2016 - New Castle County Head Start, Inc. (NCCHS) was awarded a grant in the amount of $217,476 from the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families to offer Early Head Start services for pregnant women and children ages birth to 3 years in New Castle County, Delaware. NCCHS is now enrolling income eligible families for the home-based Early Head Start program starting in September 2016.

The new program provides weekly child-focused home visits by NCCHS staff to promote the parents' ability to support the child's physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. Staff members will complete developmental screenings, conduct parent-child learning activities, educate parents on community programs for healthcare and social services, and assist parents in achieving self sufficiency. In addition, twice per month NCCHS will offer socialization opportunities for parents and children to come together as a group.

“We regularly conduct community assessments to identify needs among families in our community,” comments NCCHS Executive Director Jeffrey E. Benatti. “We identified a significant gap in services for children under the age of 3 and pursued grant support to expand our services to this age group. Our staff is very excited about the new program beginning this fall.”

Now Enrolling for Fall 2016! Families interested in Early Head Start services should contact the Administrative Office by calling (302) 452-1500.
